How to Conquer Your Biggest Challenge

July 13, 2010

We all face challenges in our lives, some bigger than others.  Recently I’ve faced challenges with technology, fear of change, and lack of preparation.

I’ve conquered some of these challenges already, and some I’m still in the process of figuring out.  The biggest breakthrough I’ve had recently is the realization that I am not alone.  Other people have gone through/are going through/will go through the same challenges.  There are people out there who can help.  Truly, I had no idea of that before.  None.

We can do it!!

I’ve always been very focused on my friends and loved ones, and my people have always been very important to me.  So, I want you to know that you’re not alone either.  We can do this.  Together.

Please comment:

  1. What challenges have you faced in the past?
  2. What is the biggest challenge facing you today?
  3. What is the change or realization that would help you the most?

I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

Love,
CarolAnn

I Love My Students!

August 7, 2010

Hey all!  You may know that my master’s is in linguistics.  You may even know that I’m teaching an intensive pronunciation class this summer to foreign-born future-TAs.

What you may not know is that we have such intense practice during the week, that we like to have some fun on Fridays.  We join another class and play language games.  This Friday, we played question-Jenga.  The other class put up an excellent effort, and were bested once again.

My class is super-competitive (as am I), so I have tons of pride about them, about our winning streak, and about the class as a whole.  This has just been such an awesome experience… It’s a beautiful thing to know something, explain it to someone else, and have them get it.  It’s truly a blessing to have had this experience!!

Do you like teaching? It’s a lot of work, it’s true, and I find it so gratifying.  My mom says she always knew I’d teach.  It’s in my blood.  What do you think?

Love,
CarolAnn

Really cool photographs juxtaposing modern Russia with the Soviet Union by Sergei Larenkov. Just plain cool!
